Is a marriage in Vegas cheesy? Which chapels are best?

My boyfriend of three years is planning on asking me to marry him in September…we want to do a quick wedding in Vegas (we wish we could have a large one on the beach, but funds and health issues and family issues don’t make that possible) so…I want it to be special. Any ideas? I’m only 20 and don’t know much about it.

Hi and congratulations!

First off, NO, a wedding is Vegas is not cheesy. There are many nice chapels.

However, when you say you don’t have the funds….then why go off to Vegas?

Why not have your little wedding on the beach instead? Why do you think you either have to have a big wedding or a Vegas wedding? There are LOTS of other alternatives.

I don’t know where you live, but wherever it is….there are alternatives. Do you live by a beach? Have a beach wedding then! What about a park, garden, or your home or a family members home? Do you belong to a church? Have a small church wedding with a small reception following.

The money you save by NOT going to Vegas (airfare, hotel, meals), you can put toward your wedding at home.

Use the “discover” key at the top of this section to research all of the questions that have been asked about low budget weddings! There are plenty of brides on here that have:

~ bought their dress at a mall, JCPenney, Ebay, a thrift store, JCrew, etc.
~ had one attendant who chose her own dress
~ had a simple ceremony
~ had a small reception after with cake, punch and coffee!

I hope this gives you some alternatives. But, if you want Vegas, then look at these websites:

OR, search any of the hotels: Mirage, Bellagio, Treasure Island, Paris, Venetian….they ALL offer wedding packages.

………………..

Little White Wedding Chapel…..Lots of people who marry in Vegas go there.

BUT if you want a special wedding I say have a small one at home…Literally at home. In your backyard. It can be so cute and VERY special under the stars.

Vegas weddings aren’t really “special” their just for those that want to get married right away. Not really special.
You CAN have the wedding, special wedding of your dreams with creativity and family help on both sides and it can be pretty cheap

………..

Any wedding can be cheesy…it is all about the atmosphere you promote.

I am getting married in Las Vegas-at a lovely Catholic church and we are having the reception at a hotel on the Strip. It is not cheap, but we are happy about our choice. Las Vegas is halfway between our two home states of CA and NM, so it works perfectly.

It can be, but it doesn’t have to be. I can’t recommend any chapel over another, but we did our quickie ceremony in the Drive-Thru at the Little White Wedding Chapel. We rented a convertible, did the deed with our parents listening in on our cell phones, and dashed of to a light meal and champagne at the Bellagio. We’re having a formal ceremony in the fall at another hotel;

P.S. Our Venetian ceremony will cost less than $900!

Afterwards, it’s back to the Bellagio Fountains!

‘Mail me, let me know your budget. I’ll send you links to some places. I did a lot of Googling while looking for my wedding stuff, and I got pretty good at it.

………….

I don’t think a Vegas wedding is cheesy… I’m planning a wedding there for 10.18.08. We chose the Flamingo for our ceremony. I had a family friend that got married there and said that they were very happy with it.

We visited Vegas thinking we were going to get married at Mandalay Bay. We made an appointment to look at it, pretty much ready to book. I was very “underwhelmed” by the ceremony site. So, we chose the Flamingo based on pictures and word of mouth. For the gazebo chapel, we did the tulip package. It was $1000 for photographer, videographer, flowers, music and the site for 1 hour.

We chose to do a daytime wedding to give our guests a chance to enjoy the night on the town. This also saved a TON of $$ on the reception. We’re doing a mid-afternoon lunch at the Palm at The Forum Shops at Caesars. The guests have a great choice of Steak, chicken or fish, salad, potatoes and desert for $29 a person. Dinner would have been triple that! Also, you figure most people wont drink as much during the day (maybe…) You get a private room for 3 hours. Perfect for us.

It helped me a lot in finding a place I liked. For info on private dining, I lived on this site:

It has all the restaurants in the area that offer private dining for groups.
